HISTORY: Black Tourmaline was rediscovered around the 1400's in a German village formerly known as "Schorl," which granted the stone the same name within Europe. It was popularized much later by the Dutch East India Company, though Europeans believed "Schorl" and "Black Tourmaline to be different formations for quite some time. It is believed that many ancient cultures (such as the Egyptians) used Black Tourmaline for its protective properties during rituals and ceremonial events.
